Q&A
A: If the weather looks bad, you can usually reschedule your lesson without any issues. Just reach out to Surfs Up NY as soon as possible, and they’re pretty flexible. It's always good to check the forecast a few days before your scheduled time. They'll work with you to find a new slot that fits your schedule!
A: Absolutely! The lessons are geared toward beginners, and all ages are welcome. Young kids to older adults can have a blast learning to surf. Just make sure the person you’re gifting it to is comfortable in the water. The instructors are really patient and will help everyone at their own pace!
A: You’ll want to wear something comfortable that you don’t mind getting wet. The wetsuit is provided, so just wear your swimwear underneath. Plus, bring a towel and maybe some flip-flops for after. If it's chilly, a light hoodie or jacket for before and after is a good idea, too!

Just took a surfing lesson at Rockaway Beach!
Had the best time with my private surfing lesson from Surfs Up NY! The instructor was super chill and really helped me catch my first wave. I was a bit nervous going in, but the sand-bottomed waves were perfect for beginners. I totally recommend it if you're looking for something fun to gift someone! It was around $100, but worth every penny. Can't wait to go back!
Thinking of gifting a surf lesson - thoughts?
So, I want to get my boyfriend a surfing lesson for his birthday! He’s never surfed before, but I think he’d love it. Is Rockaway Beach a good spot? Any tips for first-timers? Also, how early should I book to secure a spot?
