We designed this tour as an introduction to dog mushing for those who want to experience the activity beyond just riding in the sled. If you want to experience the rush of running your own dog team, this is your chance. You will meet the sled dogs in our kennel and get plenty of time to get familiar with your team. Your experienced dog mushing guide will present to you the basics of dog mushing, teach you how to put on a harness, and line up the sled dogs in preparation for take off. Each participant has a full 30 minutes of practicing on the sled runners, learning how to lean into the turns, breaking, and leading your dog team by voice command only. A second 30 minutes you are spending in the sled watching/studying your partner practicing. You will get great insight into the art of dog mushing and have plenty of time to take pictures of this great experience.

Q: What's the age limit for participating in the dog mushing school?

A: There's no strict age limit, but they recommend kids be at least 8 years old to participate. Younger kids can still join, but they might need an adult to help with the sled handling. Just be sure they’re comfortable around dogs, as it’s a hands-on experience.

Q: What should I wear for the dog mushing experience?

A: Dress in layers! It can get cold out there, even if you’re moving around. Wear a good pair of waterproof boots, gloves, and a warm coat. Also, bring sunglasses if it’s sunny; the glare off the snow can be intense!

A: Yes, they’re pretty flexible with rescheduling if the weather turns. Just give them a call as soon as you know you need to change plans. They’ll work with you to find a time that fits, but be sure to check their cancellation policy for more details.

I just got back from the 2-hour dog mushing school in Fairbanks and wow, what a rush! Getting to harness the dogs and actually mush was such a blast. The instructors were super friendly and knowledgeable. Make sure to bring your camera! The scenery is stunning. Highly recommend this as a gift or just for yourself!
