Q&A
A: There's no formal age restriction for the tour, so yes, kids can definitely join! It’s a great way to teach them about Jewish history and culture. Just keep in mind that some of the former synagogues can be quite serious environments, so it’s good to prep them a bit beforehand. You might want to check with Dr. Schatz if you’re bringing a big group of kids though.
A: The dress code is pretty casual! Just wear something comfortable since you’ll be walking around a lot. If you plan to enter synagogues, it's respectful to dress modestly. So maybe avoid shorts and tank tops. A light jacket is also good, depending on the season!
A: If it rains, the tour usually goes on since many of the stops are indoors. Dr. Schatz is flexible and can adapt the itinerary based on the weather. I’d recommend checking in with him a day before just to confirm everything is still a go!

Thinking of getting the Jewish Neighborhoods tour for my parents!
I’m considering this tour for my parents' anniversary since they grew up in Philly during that time. I think it would be a great trip down memory lane! Has anyone done it? What’s the best part? I hope they actually get to enter the synagogues too!
Just did the Jewish Neighborhoods tour! Here’s my experience!
I went on the tour with Dr. Schatz last weekend and it was AMAZING! He shared so many cool stories about the neighborhoods and we got to visit some awesome places like the old markets and synagogues. I felt like I was really stepping back in time. Highly recommend it if you’re curious about the Jewish history in Philly!
