Q&A

Q: Are there age limits for the whale watching experience?

A: There’s no strict age limit for the whale and dolphin watching tours, but they do recommend that kids be at least 6 years old to enjoy the ride and understand the safety instructions. If you have younger kids, it might be worth checking with the provider, but my 8-year-old loved it! Just keep in mind that everyone will need a life jacket.

Q: What should I wear for the whale watching experience?

A: Dress in layers! It can get a bit chilly out on the water, especially if you’re going early in the morning. A light jacket is great, and don't forget sunglasses and a hat. Waterproof shoes might be a good idea too, just in case! You’ll want to be comfortable.

Q: What’s the best time of year to go whale watching in San Diego?

A: Honestly, any time is awesome! From December to April, you can see the gray whales migrating, and during the summer months, you'll catch the blue whales and tons of dolphins. The tours run year-round, so just pick what type of wildlife you’re hoping to see. Either way, it’s a blast!

Just Booked the Whale Watching Experience! Any Tips?

I just got tickets for the 3-hour guided whale and dolphin watching experience in San Diego for my anniversary! I’m super excited but also a bit nervous. What’s it like being on the boat? Is it comfortable? I know they use military boats so I assume it's pretty safe, but any tips would be awesome!

Has Anyone Tried the San Diego Whale Watching Tour?

Thinking about gifting the whale and dolphin watching tour to my parents. Has anyone done it? What was the wildlife like? Are the guides knowledgeable? I just want to make sure it's worth it before I buy!
