A kayak paddle on Yellowstone Lake is a great way to start the day before moving on to afternoon activities. We begin the tour at 10AM to beat the wind and waves that can form later in the day. Launching in the evening can be quite dangerous. Safety is our priority. Your kayak instructor will provide a safety briefing and introduce you to the kayaks and paddle strokes. The tours have a ratio of 6-guests-to-1-guide. The minimum age to join is 14. Once underway, we journey from the Grant Village Marina to the West Thumb Geyser Basin. The sight of the steaming geyser basin forms a lifelong memory. Enjoy the big mountain views of the Absaroka Range across the lake. Getting out on the water is a unique way to experience the Park. Our tours are fun! But, we also have a passion for the Park and enjoy sharing information about the flora, fauna, and history of the region. Tours include morning hot drinks and light snacks, as well as lunch on an off the beaten path beach.

Q&A

Q: Can someone under 14 join if they're with an adult?

A: Unfortunately, the minimum age is strictly enforced at 14 for this kayak tour. It’s a safety measure due to the water conditions and the physical demands of kayaking in Yellowstone Lake. You might want to consider other age-friendly activities in the park until they meet the age requirement.

Q: What should I wear for the kayaking trip? Is it cold in the morning?

A: Layering is key! It can be chilly in the morning on Yellowstone Lake, so wear a moisture-wicking base layer and bring a light jacket. You might even want a hat and sunscreen since the sun can be pretty strong later in the day. They provide paddle jackets, but it's good to be prepared.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad? Can we reschedule?

A: If the weather's bad, safety is the priority. They usually keep an eye on conditions. If they cancel, you can reschedule for a later date. Just make sure to reach out to them as soon as possible for the best options.

Thinking of gifting the 4-Hour Kayak Tour on Yellowstone Lake!

I'm considering this kayak experience for my sister's birthday! She's 16 and loves the outdoors. I read they provide snacks and lunch, which is nice. Is it as beautiful as everyone says? Any tips for first-timers?

Just did the Yellowstone Kayak Tour and it was awesome!

I booked the kayak tour for my group last week and wow, what a memorable day! The guide was super knowledgeable about the park, and the views were to die for. The lunch on the beach was a great touch! We saw some wildlife too. Highly recommend it!
