Q&A
A: The prime salmon fishing season in Ketchikan runs from June to September. During this time, you'll have the most success with catching various salmon species like King and Coho. If you're looking for a specific type of salmon, check with the captains beforehand as they know the best spots based on the season. Don't forget to dress in layers; it can get chilly out on the water!
A: Kids of all ages are welcome on the salmon trip! It's a great family-friendly activity. Just make sure to check with your captain about safety gear, especially for younger kids. They usually have life jackets available. It's definitely an experience your kids will remember!
A: Dress in layers! It can get chilly on the water, even in the summer. A waterproof jacket is a must, along with comfortable shoes that can get wet. Also, don't forget a hat and sunscreen because the glare off the water can be intense. Maybe bring a change of clothes just in case you get splashed while reeling in a fish!

Thinking about gifting the salmon trip experience in Ketchikan!
I’m planning to surprise my dad with the 6 Hour Salmon Trip for his birthday! He loves fishing but hasn’t had a chance to go in Alaska yet. I’m curious about how the captains are—are they friendly and helpful? I just want to make sure it’s a memorable day. Also, any tips on what to do if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
Just completed the salmon trip and it was epic!
I went on the 6 Hour Salmon Trip last week and it was one of the best experiences ever! Caught 6 huge salmon! The guides were super cool and shared tips on how to reel them in. Snacks and drinks were provided, which was a nice touch. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to have a fun day out on the water!
