Q&A

Q: What's the best time of year to go on this elk tour?

A: The elk rut typically happens in late September through early October, so aim for those weeks! This is when you'll see the most activity, including the infamous bugling bulls. Just be aware that these tours happen around sunrise and sunset, which are the peak times for elk activity. Definitely dress warm since it can get chilly out there.

Q: How physically demanding is this tour? Is it suitable for older folks?

A: The tour is pretty easygoing, mostly spent in the vehicle with some minor walking to the best viewing spots. It’s great for all ages, so older folks should have no problem. Just make sure they’re dressed warmly for the cooler mountain mornings and evenings. The guides are super accommodating!

Q: Is parking an issue at the starting point for this tour?

A: Parking can be tricky during peak seasons, but the tour company usually provides details on where to park. Arrive a little early to find a good spot, especially if you're going on a weekend. You might have to walk a little depending on where you park, so keep that in mind!

Thinking about gifting the elk tour in RMNP—any advice?

I'm looking at getting the 'A Rutin' Good Time' elk tour for my parents. They love being outdoors and haven’t seen elk up close before. I’m a little worried about the weather with it being in the fall. Should I be concerned about cancellations? Also, what should they wear?

Just did the elk tour—AMAZING experience!

I went on the elk tour last weekend, and wow, it was incredible! We saw so many elk, including some massive bulls. The guide gave us a ton of info about their behavior and the area, which was really cool. Just a heads up, it gets chilly, so bring a warm jacket. Totally recommend this as a gift!
