People come from all over the world to see Holland’s Tulip Time Festival each May and often miss the city’s year-round peaceful beauty. On this self-guided walking tour, you’ll visit Downtown Holland’s prettiest locations that are often overlooked by visitors, with some unexpected historical details! If you like local history, insider locations, and beautiful flowers, this is the walk for you! The tour starts at the city’s former fire station, known today as the Holland City Hall & Firehouse No. 2 Historical Marker, built in response to the devastating city-wide fire of 1871. As you make your way to Hope College’s historic campus and the elegantly maintained grounds of Centennial Park, you’ll hear about the multiple fires that nearly destroyed Holland. I’ll also tell you how a successful bank heist erupted into gunfire on 8th Street where, today, you’ll find thriving locally-owned shops and restaurants.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for this walking tour? I'm thinking of gifting it to my parents.

A: There really isn't a strict age limit for the tour. It’s designed for all ages, but keep in mind that the walking distance can be a bit much for some seniors, especially if they have mobility issues. The tour is very flexible, so they can take breaks when they need to. Just make sure they wear comfy shoes!

Q: What if the weather is bad on the day we plan to do the tour?

A: You can actually do the tour whenever it fits your schedule since you’ll have lifetime access once you book! If the weather looks rough on your planned day, just pick another time. The app lets you download the audio and maps for offline use too, which is super handy.

Q: Can you park near the starting point at City Hall? I’m not familiar with downtown Holland.

A: Yes, there’s street parking available around City Hall, and there are a few lots nearby too. Just make sure to check the signs for any meter requirements! It’s a pretty easy area to navigate, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a spot.

Thinking of gifting the Holland walking tour for my friend’s birthday!

I came across this self-guided audio tour in Holland and it sounds perfect! My friend loves history, and the fact that it includes stories about the city’s past is really cool. Plus, it’s free! Has anyone done it? How long does it usually take?

Anyone know if this tour is good for kids?

I want to take my kids on this walking tour when we visit Holland next month. They're 8 and 10. Is it interesting enough for them, or should I look for something else?
