Enjoy a scenic ride along Turnagain Arm, one of Alaska’s most picturesque routes, where you'll take in views of towering mountains, sparkling waters, and rugged wilderness. After a stunning drive, spend one hour at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC), where you’ll see bears, moose, bison, wolves, and other native species in spacious enclosures. Learn about the center’s vital conservation efforts while exploring its beautiful, natural habitats. After your visit, you'll be dropped off at Girdwood Station, where you can catch the FREE Glacier Valley Transit to the Alyeska Tramway. Ride the tram to the top for panoramic views of mountains, glaciers, and wilderness. At the top, explore the Roundhouse Museum, showcasing exhibits on the region’s history, wildlife, and the tram’s engineering marvel. Be sure to book your return on the Girdwood Express back to Anchorage independently, allowing you the flexibility to explore at your own pace.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for kids at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center?

A: There’s no age limit per se, but younger kids might need supervision since some enclosures can be close to the paths. The Wildlife Center is very family-friendly and has lots of educational programs for kids. I took my 5-year-old, and he loved it!

Q: What’s the best time to go for the best views during the tram ride?

A: The late afternoon tends to have the clearest skies, but you’ll want to keep an eye on the weather. Even if it’s cloudy, being up high can still give you some cool views of the glaciers. Just check the forecast before you go!

Q: What’s the parking situation like at the Wildlife Conservation Center?

A: Parking is super easy! There’s a large lot right by the entrance, and it’s free. Just arrive a bit early if you’re going during peak times, especially in the summer, as it can get busy.

Thinking about gifting the Alaska Wildlife Center and Tram Tour!

I’m considering this tour for my parents who are visiting Anchorage next month. They love nature and animals, and I've heard the wildlife center is amazing! Can anyone share what they liked most? Also, is it easy to get to the tram after visiting the center?

Just got back from the wildlife center and Alyeska Tram!

OMG, the experience was breathtaking! The views from the tram were out of this world, and seeing the bears up close was surreal. We went early in the day, and I definitely recommend wearing layers because it gets chilly at the top. Can't wait to go back!
