Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is a 125,000 acre wildlife preserve managed by the United States Fish & Wildlife Service. This incredible wildlife corridor was also home to an old logging and whiskey distilling community during Prohibition. Who knew the OBX had black bear and endangered red wolves? Also see snowy egrets, great blue herons, and turtles.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the Alligator River Kayak Adventure?

A: There's no strict age limit, but kids should be at least 8 years old to paddle on their own. Younger kids can sit in tandem with adults. Just make sure they have a life jacket that fits! It's a great family activity, so bring the kids along if they're old enough!

Q: What's the best time of year to do the Alligator River Kayak Adventure?

A: Spring and fall are ideal—milder temps and more wildlife activity. In summer, it can get pretty hot, and mosquitoes can be a pain! If you go in late spring or early fall, you'll also see more migratory birds!

Q: Do we need to bring our own gear for the Alligator River kayak trip?

A: Nope! Kitty Hawk Kayak provides everything you need: kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and safety gear. Just wear comfy clothes and maybe sandals that can get wet. Sunscreen is a must too, especially in the summer!

Thinking about gifting the Alligator River Kayak Adventure!

Hey everyone! I’m considering giving my partner the Alligator River Kayak Adventure for their birthday. We love nature and kayaking, but I’m not sure if it’s suitable for beginners. Has anyone done it? What’s it like? The wildlife sounds incredible!

Just got back from the Alligator River Kayak Adventure!

Wow, what an experience! We saw egrets, turtles, and even a bear!! The guides were so chill, made it easy for us to enjoy. The water was calm and we just paddled around for a few hours. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves nature or needs a fun day out in the Outer Banks!
