This is the one and only Original Alpaca Picnic Experience. While shooting for Quechua Benefit, a nonprofit supporting economic benefits for underserved communities in the Peruvian highlands, professional travel, nature & humanitarian photographer Wasim Muklashy met Amanda Vandenbosch, one of the world's premiere alpaca breeders & Peru-trained alpaca judges. That encounter blossomed into a friendship which led to his living & working at Flying Dutchman Alpacas, Amanda's family farm in Bend, OR during part of the pandemic year. Taking their morning coffee & lunch in the alpaca pasture was pure therapy & they both realized that if these floofs were therapeutic to them, they'd be therapeutic to ALL. So here they are, offering an experience with a group of floofs guaranteed to put smiles on the faces of those in the foulest of moods. There is no other activity that will give you this level of time, experience, education and interaction with the magical creatures that are the alpaca.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the Alpaca Picnic Experience in Bend?

A: There's no strict age limit! Kids are definitely welcome, and it's a great experience for families. Just be sure to supervise younger kids around the alpacas since they can be a bit curious. Also, it’s a good idea to check in advance about any specific age-related activities if you're planning for a group.

Q: What should I wear for the Alpaca Picnic? Any weather concerns?

A: Definitely check the weather before you go! Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes since you’ll be walking around the farm. Bring a light jacket if it’s a bit chilly in the morning, but overall, it’s pretty casual. If it rains, they usually reschedule, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

Q: How hard is it to schedule a visit for the Alpaca Picnic Experience?

A: It's pretty straightforward! You can book online through their website. They usually have a good selection of dates available, but weekends can fill up fast, so I’d recommend booking a few weeks in advance. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, they are usually pretty flexible with rescheduling.

Just did the Alpaca Picnic in Bend and it was AMAZING!

I went to the Alpaca Picnic Experience last week and wow, it was such a unique outing! We got to hang out with the alpacas, have a delicious lunch, and even learned a lot about them. Amanda and the team were super welcoming. The farm is in such a beautiful spot in Bend. If you're looking for a fun, quirky gift, this is it!

Thinking about giving the Alpaca Picnic Experience as a gift!

I’m considering this for my sister’s birthday! She LOVES animals, especially alpacas. I’m curious if it’s really worth it... like, are the encounters as fun as they sound? Also, how interactive is it?
