Meet expert aquarist Matt Wilson and join him for a hands-on encounter with the cool, the wet, and the slimy by spending two hours as a member of the aquarium staff. Matt is a professional biologist who has a rare zest for strange and often overlooked creatures like jellyfish that make up so much of our ocean. Practice your observation skills, try your hand at preparing food and feeding animals, or even assist in animal healthcare. Activities will vary based on the real needs of the animals in our aquarium. SAFETY NOTES: Recommended for ages 8 and up. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the historic nature of our building, this experience is NOT fully ADA accessible. Participants should be able to climb stairs and stand for the duration of the experience. Thinking about booking the Behind the Scenes Aquarium experience!

Hey everyone! I’m considering gifting the Behind the Scenes at the Sitka Sound Science Center experience to my niece who's 12. It sounds so cool to learn from Matt Wilson and get hands-on with feeding jellyfish! But does anyone know how intense the activities are? Is it really suitable for her age?

Anyone tried the hands-on experience at the aquarium?

I just came back from the Aquarium Behind the Scenes experience and wow, it was amazing! I met Matt and learned so much about the creatures there. Feeding the jellyfish was definitely the highlight! Just a heads up, wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Has anyone else done this? What was your favorite part?
