Q&A
A: There’s no specific age limit for kids, but this tour does involve some hiking and walking. I took my 11-year-old, and he had a blast! Just make sure he’s up for some light hiking and enjoys nature. The guide is super accommodating, and they provide everything needed for a fun day out.
A: Definitely wear some sturdy shoes—you’ll be hiking through rainforests, and it can get muddy! I wore waterproof shoes and didn’t regret it. Light, breathable clothes are best since it can get warm, but also pack a light jacket in case of rain. The guide provides umbrellas and rain jackets, just in case!
A: It’s about a 1.5-hour drive from Hilo to Waipio Valley, depending on traffic. The tour includes pick-up, so you don’t have to worry about parking! Once you’re in the valley, the guide knows the best spots and can handle all the logistics. It makes it super easy to just enjoy the views!

Just got back from the Big Island Private Tour—amazing experience!
We did the Waipio Valley tour with Wild Hawaii Tours last week, and it was unreal! The views from the lookout were absolutely breathtaking, especially with the waterfalls in the background. Hiking to Akaka Falls was a highlight—so lush and green. Our guide even shared some local history that made it super interesting. We saw sea turtles at Richardson Ocean Park too! Can't recommend this enough if you want to see the best of the Big Island!
Considering gifting the Waipio Valley tour—advice?
I’m thinking of getting this private tour for my parents. They love nature and hiking but are a bit older (in their 60s). Is it too strenuous for them? Also, how’s the lunch experience? Any recommendations?
