Starting at the Brewing Heritage Trail Sign at Findlay Market, this brewing history and architecture tour walks the western portion of the Brewery District, marveling at the many remaining 19th and early 20th century structures and sharing stories of those who built or doomed these brewing empires during beer’s industrial revolution. Tours include a visit into the subterranean lager cellars of the historic (non-operating) Jackson Brewery, as well as outdoor visitation to the Sohn/Mohawk Brewery, several Christian Moerlein sites, and the location of the Bellevue Incline. The Jackson Brewery cellars were excavated from the hillside under the brewery, so we enter from street level and there are no stairs to climb going in or out, making these cellars very accessible and the total walking distance of this tour is less than a mile. At the tour conclusion, we stop in at a neighborhood taproom for a pint of local beer, included with each ticket!

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the Built on Beer Tour?

A: The Built on Beer Tour is designed for adults, so everyone attending should be 21 or older since you’ll be enjoying a beer at the end. However, if you’re bringing someone younger, you can just let them have a soft drink instead. Just keep in mind to check for ID if you want to participate in the beer tasting!

Q: What should I wear for the Built on Beer Tour? Is it casual?

A: Definitely go with casual! You’ll be walking less than a mile, but it is outdoors, so comfy shoes are a must. Layers are a good idea too since it might get chilly in the lager cellars. I wore jeans and a t-shirt, and that worked out perfectly!

Q: Can the tour be rescheduled if we can’t make it?

A: Yes, you can reschedule the Built on Beer Tour. Just reach out to the provider at least 24 hours in advance, and they'll help you set up a new date. It's really flexible if plans change, which is nice!

Thinking about gifting the Built on Beer Tour - any thoughts?

I'm planning to surprise my husband with the Built on Beer Tour for his birthday! He loves history and beer, so it seems perfect. I saw that it starts at Findlay Market and visits some really cool cellar areas. Do you think he’ll enjoy it? Also, how’s the taproom at the end? Any tips on making this gift extra special?

Just did the Built on Beer Tour - here’s my recap!

I went on the Built on Beer Tour last weekend, and it was amazing! The history of the old breweries is super interesting, and entering the lager cellars was such a unique experience. Plus, the included beer at the taproom was a great way to end the day. Highly recommend for anyone who loves local history and beer!
