Q&A

Q: Can you take kids on the ferry to Catalina Island, and is there an age limit?

A: Yes, kids are absolutely welcome on the Catalina Flyer! There’s no specific age limit, but keep in mind that kids under 12 usually need to be accompanied by an adult. The ferry ride is pretty smooth so little ones tend to enjoy the trip, especially if they can grab snacks from the snack bar on the first deck.

Q: What should I wear for the ferry ride? Is it chilly on the water?

A: I’d recommend dressing in layers! It can be a bit chilly on the water, especially on the open-air deck. A light jacket or sweater is a good idea, and don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen if you plan to be outside. Comfort is key since it’s about an hour and fifteen minutes!

Q: If the weather's bad, can we reschedule our ferry ride?

A: Absolutely! If there’s inclement weather, the ferry operator usually allows you to reschedule for another day without any extra fees. Just make sure to keep an eye on the weather forecast and check with them directly for the latest info. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the ocean!

Thinking about gifting the Catalina Ferry experience!

Hey everyone! I’m looking to surprise my partner with tickets for the Catalina Island ferry. We’ve both wanted to go for ages! I love that it leaves from Balboa Pavilion too, super convenient. What’s the best deck to sit on for views? Also, any tips for making the most of it?

Anyone done the ferry to Catalina lately?

I just did the ferry from Newport Beach to Avalon last weekend and it was amazing! The ride was so smooth and we loved the open deck. It was perfect weather, but I was worried it might be too cold. Turns out I was right to bring a light jacket. Highly recommend this as a gift, especially for someone who loves the ocean!
