Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for kids to go on the whale-watching tour?

A: There’s no strict age limit, but they recommend kids be at least 5 years old. The boat rides can get a bit bumpy, so younger kids might not enjoy it as much. Just keep in mind, it’s a small vessel, so if your kiddo is adventurous, they’ll have a blast!

Q: What should we wear on the whale-watching tour?

A: Dress in layers! It can get chilly out on the water, even in summer. A waterproof jacket is a must, plus sunscreen and hats for when the sun comes out. Don't forget comfortable shoes since you might have to walk a bit from the ship to the pickup spot.

Q: How does the pickup and drop-off work for the whale watching trip?

A: They pick you up right outside the cruise ship facility, so it’s super convenient! Just be there 30 minutes before your tour time. The walk to the pickup spot is about 10-15 minutes. After the tour, they drop you back off at the same location, so easy peasy!

Thinking about gifting the whale-watching experience at Icy Strait Point!

I’m looking to buy this 'Catch of the Day' whale-watching tour for my parents. They love the ocean and wildlife, but I’m curious about how small the group on the boat actually is. Anyone done this? I heard they limit it to 16 people, which sounds way better than the crowded boats! Also, how was the experience overall?

Just got back from the whale watching tour!

Wow, what a fantastic experience! We were in a small group of 8 and it felt so personal. The crew was super knowledgeable and we saw several humpback whales! They even provided snacks which was a nice touch. If you're thinking of going, do it! Worth every penny!
