Q&A
A: Definitely dress in layers! It's going to be cold, especially during the aurora chase. I recommend thermal undergarments, a good winter coat, warm socks, and waterproof boots. Don't forget gloves and a hat! The ground can be icy, so be prepared for that too.
A: There can be limited bathroom access during the aurora chase, so it's best to go before you leave Chena Hot Springs. The driver might stop if there's an emergency, but don't count on that. I’d recommend using the facilities at the hot springs beforehand.
A: Yes, the tour can be great for kids! Just keep in mind the cold weather and late night timing. If your kids can handle the chill and are interested in the auroras, they’ll have a blast. There’s no strict age limit, but younger kids should be monitored closely in icy conditions.

Just did the Chena Hot Springs + Aurora Chase tour and WOW!
I just got back from the Chena Hot Springs and Aurora Chase tour and it was incredible! The hot springs were so relaxing, and the drive to see the auroras was just magical. Our guide was super knowledgeable and we even got some tips on photography for the northern lights! Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Fairbanks. Just a heads up, you really need to bundle up for the chase though!
Considering the Chena Hot Springs + Aurora Chase as a gift!
Looking to gift this experience to my sister who loves the outdoors and photography. I think she’d love the idea of soaking in hot springs and seeing the northern lights. Has anyone done this? Any tips on how to make it special for her? Also, how cold was it during your tour?
