Q&A
A: There's no strict age limit, but the tour is generally suited for ages 6 and up. Kids younger than that might find it challenging to stay engaged for the full 3 hours. Just keep in mind that you're in bear country, so it's important for younger ones to be supervised closely. And also, be sure they can handle some walking on uneven terrain!
A: Definitely dress in layers! The weather in Hoonah can be unpredictable. I'd recommend wearing a waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes, and maybe even thermal layers if you're going in early spring or late fall. Don't forget a hat and gloves just in case it gets chilly while you’re out in the wild. You’ll want to be comfortable to fully enjoy the experience!
A: Yes, they’re pretty accommodating with rescheduling due to weather. If you're concerned, just check in with Hoonah Travel Adventures a day or two before your tour. They’ll let you know if any changes are needed. Just remember that Alaska weather can change quickly, so it's good to have flexibility in your plans!

Just booked the Chichagof Island Bear Tour! So excited!
I’ve been planning this trip to Hoonah and just booked the Brown Bear Search tour! It’s a bit pricey for the USFS fee, but I can’t wait to see the bears in their natural habitat. The tour is only 3 hours, and I love that it’s a small group. I’ve heard the guides are local natives and super knowledgeable. Anyone have tips on what to bring?
Hoonah Bear Tour Experience - Worth Every Penny!
I just got back from the Chichagof Island tour and wow, I’m still in awe! We saw so many bears, and our guide was super friendly and knew the area well. The van was comfy and it was nice to not be cramped in a big group. I’d totally recommend this for anyone who loves wildlife. Just be prepared for some hiking; it can be a bit tough if you're not used to it, but so worth it!
