Enjoy the best sightseeing on the San Diego Bay—with a professionally narrated tour provided by The San Diego Natural History Museum of San Diego's whale-watching hot spots. Join us on the water as we search for Gray Whales (winter), Blue Whales (Summer), Minke Whales, Fin Whales, dolphins, sea lions, marine birds and much more! As we cruise, we’ll see up-close views of the bay's wildlife as well as iconic landmarks from a new perspective. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to capture all the sights in photos and video. If some type of whale is not sighted on your whale watching cruise, you will receive a pass good to return for a Whale Watching Cruise or Harbor Cruise from City Cruises San Diego. NOTE: The whale watching vessel cruises in the open ocean. Our yacht is the most comfortable yacht in San Diego, due to stabilizers that greatly reduce the yacht's motion.

Q&A

Q: What should we wear on the whale watching cruise? Do I need to bring anything special?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It can get chilly out on the water, especially if it's windy. I'd recommend a light jacket and closed-toe shoes since the deck can be slippery. Also, don't forget your camera for those amazing whale shots!

Q: Can this be a good experience for kids? What's the age limit?

A: Yes, this cruise is great for kids! There’s no specific age limit, but I’d recommend it for kids 5 and up who can handle being on the boat for a few hours. They’ll love seeing the dolphins and sea lions, plus the guides are super engaging!

Q: I heard you can reschedule if you don’t see any whales. How does that work?

A: Yes, if you don’t spot any whales on the cruise, they give you a pass to come back for another trip! Just make sure to check the booking terms when you reserve. It's a nice safety net in case the whales decide to be shy!

Just did the whale watching cruise in San Diego, and it was epic!

I went on the City Cruises whale watching tour last weekend, and I'm still buzzing from it! We saw a mother and baby gray whale, plus tons of dolphins swimming alongside the boat. The narration by the naturalists was super informative and fun. Just a heads up, the boat moves pretty smoothly, I didn't feel seasick at all. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun experience in San Diego!

Considering the whale watching cruise as a gift—thoughts?

I’m thinking of getting this whale watching cruise for my dad’s birthday. He loves the ocean and wildlife, but has never been on a boat for this long. How’s the experience in terms of comfort? Are there spots to sit if he gets tired? Any tips would be appreciated!
