Don't think a tour should be a huge list of dates? Me neither! On this Evening interactive walking tour we will explore some of DC’s most iconic monuments, learning about the people they honor and those who made them. We will talk as a group about what monuments mean to you and why we have them. Come prepared to walk about a mile (1.6km). There will be benches, but not at every stop. A water bottle is recommended. Most importantly, bring your curiosity (and your camera!). So, who am I? I’m glad you asked! My name is Shelley and I adore talking about people, especially the ones that lived in the past. I started my career as a ranger with the National Park Service – you know, those people with the funny hats. You could have met me at The Frederick Douglass House, Cape Cod National Seashore, or The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal during my seven years of service. I have a Master's in museum studies and a Bachelors in anthropology and linguistics. I’m excited to meet you!

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for this walking tour, or is it suitable for kids?

A: The tour is generally suitable for all ages! Kids love the monuments and the interactive discussions. Just keep in mind that the walking distance is about a mile, so younger kids might need a little encouragement. If you're bringing little ones, maybe check with Shelley if she can tweak anything for them.

Q: What should we wear for the Monuments by Moonlight tour? Is it too chilly at night?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It can get cool after sunset, especially near the water. I’d recommend comfy shoes since you’ll be walking a bit and maybe a light jacket. Just check the weather before you go, and you should be all set to enjoy the evening!

Q: Are there any cancellations due to weather? How does that work?

A: Yes, they do monitor the weather closely. If it's too stormy or unsafe, they’ll cancel and reschedule. You'll get a notification via email, so just keep an eye on your inbox. I’d suggest calling Shelley if you’re unsure about the forecast that day!

Just booked the DC Monuments by Moonlight tour for my parents' anniversary!

I decided to surprise my parents with the Monuments by Moonlight walking tour for their anniversary! They love history, and the small group vibe with Shelley sounds perfect. I’m a little nervous about how much walking it involves since my dad recently had knee issues, but I think he’ll manage. Has anyone done this recently? Any tips?

Considering the Monuments by Moonlight tour as a fun night out!

I’m thinking about doing the Monuments by Moonlight tour this weekend with some friends! We’re all new to DC, and it’d be cool to see the monuments at night. Just wondering if the tour actually feels interactive or if it’s mostly just listening to facts?
