We begin at a local shop synonymous for their quality donuts––Do-Rite Donuts. From there we’ll walk the Randolph corridor, learning about the history of Chicago’s West Loop, a historic neighborhood which has gone through a series of revitalizations since its days as the industrial backbone of the City of Big Shoulders. We’ll sample the wacky, matcha-infused creations of a hidden-gem––Matcha-Cita cafe, where you’ll definitely need to pause for a photo-op! We’ll enjoy the over-the-top donut stylings of a newcomer shop trying to break onto the scene, Voodoo Donuts, a Portland transplant featuring indulgent flavors and unexpected toppings. Finally, we’ll stroll through a magical, old-time brickwork alley laden with beautiful, floral street-art, before emerging at Sawada Coffee, owned by the world renown latte artist, Hiroshi Sawada. Throughout our journey, we’ll provide anecdotes and history of each of the locations, the surrounding neighborhood as well as Chicago history in general.

Q&A

Q: Can you reschedule if something comes up last minute?

A: Yes, you can definitely reschedule your tour! Just make sure to give them a heads up at least 48 hours in advance, and they’ll work with you to find a new date. They’re pretty flexible, which is great for gift recipients who might have busy schedules.

Q: Is there an age limit for the walking tour?

A: There isn’t a strict age limit, but it’s definitely more suitable for teens and adults. Kids might find the walking part a bit long, but if they love donuts, they might enjoy the stops! Just keep in mind some locations can get crowded.

Q: What should we wear? Any tips for the weather?

A: Dress comfortably since you’ll be walking around for a bit! Layers are key because the weather can change in Chicago. In cooler months, a light jacket is always a good idea. Also, wear comfy shoes—you’ll thank yourself later!

Just did the Delicious Donuts tour - here's my take!

I just went on the Delicious Donuts & Sweet Treats tour in the West Loop and it was AMAZING! Do-Rite Donuts is such a classic, and the matcha donuts at Matcha-Cita were so unique! We also got to taste some crazy flavored donuts at Voodoo—seriously, the bacon maple one is insane. Plus, the history lessons about the West Loop were super interesting. Definitely a fun way to spend a few hours in Chicago!

Thinking of gifting the donut tour - any thoughts?

I’m considering getting the Delicious Donuts tour for my boyfriend’s birthday. He loves sweets, and I think he’d really enjoy the history part too! Has anyone done this? Is it worth it or should I look for something else?
