We work exclusively with local, passionate mushers who view their dog teams as their family, and you will have the chance to understand this incredible sport on your hourlong ride through the snowy forest. You will ride on a genuine dogsled, either seated or standing, as the team of 8 dogs swings through the forest with you and your guide at a comfortable but thrilling pace. You will also have the chance to see the dog kennels, and a replica of a dog-sled race checkpoint, where the competitive mushers stop for fuel and rest on their long winter races. On your reindeer tour, our experienced reindeer handlers will introduce you to the herd of reindeer at Borealis Basecamp, and you can feed, meet, and take pictures with these incredible animals.

Q&A

Q: What's the best age for kids to join the dogsledding and reindeer day trip?

A: I took my 8-year-old, and she absolutely loved it! Kids around 6 or older should be fine as long as they can follow instructions. They’ll get to help with feeding the reindeer too, which is a blast! Just keep an eye on them during the dogsledding part since it can get a bit bumpy.

Q: Is there any chance of rescheduling if the weather is bad?

A: Yes! Basecamp Adventures is super flexible with weather cancellations. If it’s unsafe to go, they’ll reach out to you and help reschedule for another day. Just make sure to check the forecast before you plan your trip!

Q: Can you just show up for lunch at Latitude 65, or do you need reservations?

A: No reservations needed! You’ll get a $20 voucher that covers a good chunk of the menu. Just stroll in whenever you’re hungry after your tour—totally casual. The food is really good too!

Anyone done the Dogsled and Reindeer Day Trip? What’s it like?

Thinking about gifting this experience to my partner for his birthday. I know he loves animals and winter activities, but I’m curious about how the dogsledding part is. Is it easy to ride on the sled for someone who’s never done it? Also, how cold does it get? I want to make sure he’s prepared!

Just went on the reindeer tour and it was AMAZING!

Just got back from the Borealis Basecamp experience! The dogsledding was a blast, so exhilarating! The reindeer were so friendly; we even got to feed them. The views are stunning too, all those snowy trees. Definitely recommend it for animal lovers! Just make sure you wear waterproof boots, things can get a bit slushy.
