Our certified tour guide will greet you in front of illy's cafe and share background information as you walk over to the historic College of William & Mary (est. 1693), our "Alma Mater of the Nation." You'll tour the oldest academic building in the United States, the Sir Christopher Wren building, and learn about the second-oldest college in America, alma mater to four United States Presidents. If the Wren building is open, there may be an opportunity for a free organ recital on Saturdays at 10am in the Chapel, and our morning tour time on Saturday is longer for the recital. All tours include touring the Colonial classroom, the Chapel, the Blue Room, the Hall of Leadership, the Great Room and academic classrooms that are still used for religious studies. We'll also visit the Brafferton, former school for Native Americans, the Hearth: Memorial to the Enslaved, and the Sunken Garden, visiting James Monroe, James Blair, the Tyler Family Garden (aka "Echo Wall") and Thomas Jefferson.

Q&A

Q: Is there a specific age limit for kids on the tour?

A: There's no strict age limit! The tour is pretty family-friendly, but I'd recommend it for kids ages 8 and up so they can grasp the history better. Younger kids might enjoy it too, but it can get a bit lengthy for them. Just make sure to keep them engaged with questions!

Q: What if the weather's bad on the day of our tour?

A: If the weather does turn sour, you can definitely reschedule! Just give them a call or shoot them an email and they’re usually super flexible. It’s all about making sure you enjoy the tour without getting drenched or stuck in the heat.

Q: What should we wear for the tour?

A: I’d recommend wearing comfy shoes since you'll be walking around the campus quite a bit. Dress in layers too, as it can get warm during the day but chilly in the shade. It’s a laid-back vibe, so no need for anything fancy!

Thinking of gifting the William & Mary College tour!

Hey everyone! I'm considering this exclusive private tour of Historic William & Mary College for my parents. They love history and have always wanted to visit. The tour includes the Wren building and even a chance for an organ recital! I’m curious if anyone’s done it before and what the experience was like. Also, do you think it would be fun for them?

Recently did the private tour—so worth it!

Just finished the private tour at William & Mary, and wow! The guide was fantastic, and visiting the Wren building was a highlight for me. The stories behind the college were so interesting. We even caught the organ recital afterwards! Highly recommend it if you're looking for a unique experience.
