I (Captain Matt) along with my crew member take our guests out for an incredible experience on the waters in and around Sitka Sound viewing the breathtaking scenery and enjoying diverse wildlife encounters! You may see many if not all of the following wildlife, Humpback whales, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Ravens, Bald eagles, shearwaters, cormorants, 2 types of puffins, and many other sea birds too numerous to mention. Bears are regularly viewed in the late summer early fall, and occasionally viewed in the spring. As I have had a long career commercial fishing in Southeast Alaska, I give unique insight into the local fishing industry. Both my crew and I will also enlighten you on local history and life in Sitka. To ensure your experience is genuine, my crew is always either one of my family, or a local hire that truly knows Sitka. We live it year round!!

Q: Is there an age limit for kids on this marine wildlife tour?

A: There’s no strict age limit, but younger kids should be able to sit still for a while. Captain Matt and his crew are super family-friendly, so they’ll make sure everyone is comfortable. Just keep in mind, it can be a bit chilly out on the water, so dress them warmly!

Q: What should we wear for the marine wildlife tour?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It can get chilly out on the water, even in the summer. Waterproof jackets are a must, and don’t forget sunscreen and hats. There’s some indoor seating, but you'll want to be ready for the wind when you’re outside!

Q: How often does the tour get canceled due to weather?

A: Captain Matt is really good about monitoring the weather conditions. Cancellations don’t happen too often, but if it does, they’ll reschedule you for another day. Just keep an eye on the forecast as your day approaches!

Just finished Captain Matt's tour—unbelievable experience!

Wow, just got back from the marine wildlife tour in Sitka and it was incredible! We saw humpback whales, sea lions, and so many birds. Captain Matt is super knowledgeable and made the whole experience fun. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting! The heated cabin made it cozy too.
