Q&A
A: The hike is generally suitable for older kids, but younger ones might find it a bit challenging. It’s best to check with Dawn about specific age restrictions, but I’d recommend it for kids 10 and up who are used to walking. The trails can get a bit steep in some areas, so just be prepared for that!
A: There's a decent parking lot at the Connell Lake Trailhead, but it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. I'd recommend getting there early to snag a spot. If it's packed, you might have to park a little further away and walk to the trailhead!
A: Dress in layers! The weather can change quickly in Ketchikan, so I'd recommend a moisture-wicking base layer, a warm layer like a fleece, and a waterproof outer layer. Don't forget sturdy hiking shoes since the trails can get muddy. Also, bring a hat and sunglasses just in case!

Just did the Connell Lake Trail hike and wow!
I just got back from the Connell Lake Trail hike in Tongass National Forest and it was amazing! The views of the lake and Brown Mountain are breathtaking. We were provided with ponchos and all the snacks were perfect for refueling. Such a peaceful escape from the city! I went with a group of friends, and we had a blast. Highly recommend it as a gift for anyone who loves nature!
Looking to buy this for my sister’s birthday!
I’ve been thinking about gifting the Connell Lake Trail hike to my sister. She loves hiking but hasn’t been to Alaska yet. I’m concerned about the weather since it can be iffy. Any tips on the best time to go or how to prepare?
