Step into a living landscape shaped by fire, time, and imagination. Frozen Fire is a guided jungle experience deep in the Hawaiian volcanic rainforest where ancient lava flows, towering ferns, and handcrafted jungle art collide. This is not a typical sightseeing tour—it is a walk through frozen rivers of fire, where molten rock once reshaped the island and now tells its story in stone. As we move through lush jungle paths, you will touch, examine, and learn to recognize different types of lava rock—from jagged aa to smooth pahoehoe—while uncovering how these flows formed, where they came from, and how they continue to influence life, culture, and creativity in Hawaii today. Along the way, discover hidden art installations and sculptures created directly from lava rock, wood, and natural jungle materials—art that blends seamlessly into the environment and reflects the raw power of the land itself.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for this experience? Can kids join?

A: Yes, kids can definitely join! The experience is suitable for children ages 6 and up. Just keep in mind that some parts of the jungle can be a bit tricky to navigate, so younger kids might need a little extra supervision. Make sure they wear sturdy shoes and are ready to explore!

Q: What about parking? Is it easy to get to the starting point?

A: Parking is pretty straightforward! There's a designated lot near the starting point of the tour. However, it can fill up quickly during peak times, so I’d recommend getting there a bit early. The area is also marked with signs, so you won’t get lost finding it.

Q: What are some good shoes to wear for this? I’m worried about the terrain.

A: Definitely wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes! Hiking boots or good trail shoes are best since the terrain can be uneven and muddy. Flip-flops or sandals just won’t cut it out there. You want something with good grip for those jungle paths.

Thinking about the Frozen Fire experience in Hawaii - thoughts?

I’m considering gifting this 'Frozen Fire' jungle tour for my parents’ anniversary. They love nature and art, so I think it’s perfect! I’ve read that they provide a free rainforest gift at the end too, which is a nice touch. Has anyone done this tour? How’s the hiking aspect? They're not super fit, so I hope it’s manageable!

Just came back from Frozen Fire and wow!

I just finished the Frozen Fire experience on the Big Island, and it was AMAZING! The lava rock formations are unbelievable, and the jungle art is so unique. Our guide was super knowledgeable about the volcanic history too. Highly recommend it for anyone who loves nature and art combined!
