This trip is designed for those eager to experience an authentic Alaskan mushing experience -- driving your own dog team! This is the real deal, which means you are not just along for a ride -- you are an active participant in this adventure. Your guide will give you a lesson on how to drive the sled and then you will assist in harnessing your team for a trip that will take you several miles through beautiful old growth boreal forest to the top of a ridge, where vast panoramic views of the White Mountains and the Chatanika River Valley await. ✔ You drive your own dog sled the entire tour, from start to finish. ✔ You do not share the dog sled with a guide or another person. ✔ You do not have a guide attached to you by a "tag sled." ✔ Our dogs are Siberian Huskies, one of the original Arctic sled dog breeds. ✔ This is NOT a sled ride.

Q&A

Q: Is there any age limit for the dog sledding experience?

A: Yes, the minimum age for this experience is 12 years old. Kids younger than that can ride along but won't be able to drive the sled themselves. It’s really a fun experience for families, just make sure your kids are ready for the cold weather and excited about being around the dogs!

Q: What should I wear for the dog sledding tour?

A: Dress in layers! You'll want a waterproof outer layer because it can get windy. The tour provides cold weather gear, but I’d recommend wearing thermal layers underneath. Don’t forget gloves – your hands will be working with the dogs!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the tour?

A: If the weather doesn't cooperate, the tour can be rescheduled to another day. They’ll usually contact you ahead of time if they think the conditions won’t be safe. Just make sure to keep an eye on your email after booking!

Just did the Dog Sledding Tour – OMG!

I just got back from the Full Day 'Drive Your Own Dog Team' tour in Fairbanks, and it was absolutely incredible! I was a bit nervous about driving the sled myself, but the guides were super chill and supportive. The views from the ridge were something out of a postcard! The hot lunch by the campfire was a nice touch too. Highly recommend it to anyone thinking about a unique gift experience!

Considering the Dog Sledding Tour as a gift!

I’m looking to buy the dog sledding tour as a birthday gift for my adventurous friend. It sounds so cool, but I have a few questions. Is it really physically demanding? Also, how do you think people will feel about handling the dogs? Any insights?
