I am a 20 year resident of the Mojave Desert and log 200 miles annually on foot within Joshua Tree National Park. Over the years and miles I've cultivated an awareness of landscape, ecological systems, and local culture that when contextualized by the trail becomes a narrative experience I'm eager to share. I landed in Joshua Tree after dropping out of college in 2001. Back then you arrived by chance or a friend of a friend said you had to check out the rocks, feel the energy, and camp under the stars. I fell in with the gathering characters, an assortment of dirtbag climbers, avant artists, practical new age visionaries, and entrepreneurs...an amalgam of identities that would go on to create the image of the High Desert that is so coveted today. I am legally permitted to guide within Joshua Tree National Park and happy to host you. I know my stuff and I want you to know it too.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for kids on this hike? I want to take my 10-year-old daughter!

A: There isn't a strict age limit, but younger kids (like your daughter) should be able to handle some walking and possibly uneven terrain. I took my 11-year-old a few months ago, and she had a blast! Just make sure she has good shoes and stays hydrated. The guide is super knowledgeable and adjusts the pace based on the group, so it should be a fun experience for both of you!

Q: What should we wear for the Full Day Hike? Is it super casual or do we need special gear?

A: Wear comfortable hiking clothes—think moisture-wicking shirts and durable pants. Good hiking boots or shoes are a must since you’ll be on rocky terrain. Don't forget a hat and sunglasses; the sun can be intense out there. The guide recommends bringing layers too since it can get chilly in the morning and evening!

Q: What if we need to reschedule? Is that easy to do?

A: Rescheduling is usually pretty straightforward! Just get in touch with the guide ahead of time, and they’ll work with you to find another date that fits. They understand things come up. Just make sure you do it as early as possible to avoid any fees!

Thinking of gifting a Full Day Hike in Joshua Tree – any thoughts?

I’m considering buying this Full Day Hike for my boyfriend’s birthday. He loves the outdoors, but I’m wondering if it’s a good choice for someone who’s not super experienced. I mean, is it mostly beginner-friendly, or do you really need to be fit? Plus, how's the view? Any tips on what to bring?

Just finished the Full Day Hike in Joshua Tree – Amazing experience!

Wow, I just got back from the Full Day Hike, and it was incredible! The guide was super knowledgeable about the park’s history and ecology. The views were out of this world, especially when we reached the top of that one rock formation! I’m already planning to go back with my family. Highly recommend it if you’re thinking about gifting this experience!
