Drive the Seward Highway along the scenic Turnagain Arm to Whittier. The Glacier Quest Cruise takes you from the quaint seaside town of Whittier to glacier-filled Blackstone Bay, a dramatic deep-water fjord where two tidewater glaciers and several alpine glaciers await. Keep an eye out for sea otters, Steller sea lions, bears, mountain goats, whales, and more! You will see several glaciers, including Tebenkof Glacier, named for Mikhail Demitrievich Tebenkof, an outstanding surveyor whose maps were the first charts of Alaska’s waters published in 1852. Northland Glacier rests majestically, clinging to the edge of the towering mountain. Blackstone and Beloit are tidewater glaciers that have carved a steep pathway to reach Prince William Sound’s saltwater. Cruise up close to these massive glaciers to watch for telltale signs of movement signaled by the distinct “pop” of glacier ice calving.

Q&A

Q: Is there a weight limit for the Glacier Quest Cruise, and how is parking in Whittier?

A: There's no strict weight limit for the cruise, but they do recommend being mindful of how many people are in your vehicle for safety during the drive from Anchorage. Parking in Whittier is pretty straightforward; there are several lots available near the cruise terminal, but they can fill up fast during peak season, so I’d suggest getting there early. Also, make sure to bring cash for the parking fees!

Q: Can you reschedule the Glacier Quest Cruise if the weather is bad?

A: Yes, Phillips Cruises & Tours allows you to reschedule if the weather conditions aren't safe. They usually notify you the day before the cruise if they need to cancel due to weather. Just keep an eye on your email and call them if you're unsure. It’s always a good idea to check the forecast leading up to your scheduled day!

Q: What should I wear for the Glacier Quest Cruise, and is it suitable for kids?

A: Dress in layers! It can get chilly on the water, even in summer, so bring a warm jacket and maybe a hat. Comfortable shoes are a must, especially if you plan to walk around when you get off the boat. As for kids, it’s definitely suitable! They’ll love spotting the wildlife and glaciers. Just make sure they’re dressed warmly too, and keep an eye on them near the edges of the deck.

Just did the Glacier Quest Cruise, and it was amazing!

I went on the Glacier Quest Cruise last week, and WOW, what an experience! The drive on Seward Highway was breathtaking, and the cruise itself was unforgettable. We saw sea otters, and the glaciers were just stunning—especially when they calved! The smoked salmon chowder on board was super tasty too. If you're considering this as a gift, just do it! My friends had the best time. Just remember to dress warm and check the weather ahead of time!

Thinking of gifting the Glacier Quest Cruise, need some advice!

I'm looking to get a gift for my parents' anniversary, and I've been eyeing the Glacier Quest Cruise. They love nature and have never been to Alaska! Is this a good choice? How's the food on board? Any tips for making it a special experience?
