Q&A

Q: What's the best time of year to go whale watching in the San Juan Islands?

A: The best time for whale watching here is generally from May to September when the whales are most active. You’ll likely see orcas and humpbacks during this time. The weather is usually nice too, but keep an eye on forecasts since it can change. If you’re looking for fewer crowds, I’d suggest going in late May or early June.

Q: Are there any age limits for kids on this tour?

A: There are no strict age limits! This tour is great for all ages. Just keep in mind that younger kids might need to stay close to you and be supervised. The crew is super friendly and can help accommodate families. Just ensure your little ones have life jackets, which are provided.

Q: What should we wear while on the boat? Is it cold out there?

A: I recommend layering! It can be chilly on the water, even in summer. A light jacket or fleece is a good idea, plus a hat and sunglasses. If you tend to get seasick, maybe bring some ginger candies or wear a wristband. The boats have some shelter, but it’s good to be prepared!

Just got back from the whale watching tour in the San Juan Islands!

Wow, what an experience! We went last weekend and saw orcas, humpbacks, and even some sea lions. The naturalists on the boat were super knowledgeable and made it really fun. The 3-hour tour felt just right; we got plenty of time on the water without it dragging on. I highly recommend it as a gift for anyone who loves wildlife. Just be sure to dress warmly!

Thinking about gifting the whale watching experience!

I want to surprise my parents with something special, and this whale watching tour seems perfect! They love nature and have always talked about seeing orcas. Has anyone done this lately? Any tips on booking or what to expect?
