Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for this backcountry skiing experience?

A: Yes, they usually recommend skiers to be at least 12 years old to participate in the backcountry skiing tours. However, younger participants can join if they’re accompanied by an adult and have some skiing experience. Just make sure to check with Mountain Trip directly to confirm any specifics.

Q: What should I wear for the guided backcountry skiing?

A: Layers are key! Wear moisture-wicking base layers, an insulating layer like a fleece, and a waterproof outer layer. Don't forget good gloves, a beanie, and goggles. Also, they provide avalanche gear, so you won't have to worry about that!

Q: What if the weather is bad on the day of our ski trip?

A: Mountain Trip is pretty flexible with rescheduling. If weather conditions are unsafe, they’ll likely reach out to you to discuss options. It’s always best to keep an eye on the weather forecasts leading up to your trip!

Thinking of gifting guided backcountry skiing in Ouray!

I’m considering this experience for my brother’s birthday! He’s an intermediate skier but never tried backcountry. Any tips for a first-time backcountry skier? Also, what’s the terrain like around Red Mountain Pass? I want to make sure it's challenging but not too overwhelming.

Just got back from an epic backcountry skiing trip!

Wow, I just did the guided backcountry skiing at Telluride and it was incredible! The guides really know their stuff and made it perfect for my skill level. The powder was unreal! I felt safe the whole time with the gear they provided. Highly recommend it as a gift for anyone who loves skiing!
