The most popular kayak tour in Tampa Bay explores both the wonderful waters & beautiful beaches of Shell Key Preserve. We'll meet everyone at the launch, do introductions, give waterproof bags,& get everyone prepped for kayaking. No experience needed as we'll give everyone a paddling overview! We use primarily double kayaks for ease+comfort. (Your booking time is the planned arrival time. Average water depth 2 feet) After that we'll get launched into Shell Key Preserve! The Preserve is a beautiful shallow environment with tons of wildlife & a very interesting ecosystem which we'll discuss plus the history of the Preserve! From the shallow seagrass flats to the large mangrove islands to the pristine beaches of Shell Key itself we'll try and cover it all! Including traveling through some mangrove tunnels (with friendly tides, primarily Mar-Oct) We'll also look for+talk about some of our incredible wildlife in the Preserve including dolphins, manatees, & other fish & birds!

Q: Are there any age restrictions for the kayak tour at Shell Key Preserve?

A: There's no strict age limit, but kids usually need to be at least 6 years old to join. If they're younger, you might want to check with Liberty Outdoors if you can take them along in a double kayak with an adult. It's a pretty family-friendly experience!

Q: What should we wear for the kayak eco-tour? Is it muddy?

A: Definitely wear something comfortable and possibly quick-drying. The water isn’t very deep, but you might get splashed! Water shoes or sandals that can get wet are a good idea. Also, don't forget your sunscreen and a hat!

Q: What if the weather doesn't cooperate? Can we reschedule?

A: Yes, if the weather is bad, they’ll usually contact you to reschedule. You can also reach out to Liberty Outdoors directly if you’re unsure about the conditions. Just keep your eye on the forecast leading up to the day!

Anyone tried the guided kayak tour at Shell Key Preserve?

I’m thinking about booking the Guided Kayak EcoTour for my partner’s birthday! I've heard the mangrove tunnels are amazing, and it includes all the gear. Just worried about my partner not being super active. Is this suitable for beginners? We’d love to see dolphins and manatees!

Just did the kayak eco-tour and it was epic!

I went on the kayak tour last weekend at Shell Key and it exceeded all my expectations! The guide was super informative, and we saw a dolphin swimming near us! The mangroves were beautiful, and I felt safe the whole time. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun day out in St. Pete!
