Welcome to the Met! We will meet at the Egyptian statue in the museum's main lobby at the designated time and kick off your guided tour of this iconic cultural institution. Home to more than two million works of art spanning 5,000 years of history, the Metropolitan Museum of Art offers a comprehensive journey through the history of universal art. During your guided tour, we will explore the most important pieces that make the museum a world-renowned institution. Your journey will begin in the Egyptian Galleries, where we will admire the Temple of Dendur, dating back to 10 BCE. From here we will move to the American Wing to view historic pieces such as “Washington Crossing the Delaware.” Next, we will travel through Europe to admire masterpieces by great artists such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh and Degas. Here, we will delve into the art movements of Baroque and Impressionism to better understand meaning.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for kids on this tour?

A: No specific age limit, but I'd recommend it for kids 8 and up. Younger ones might get bored since it’s a lot of information, but if they’re interested in art, it could be great! Just make sure they can handle a few hours of walking and listening.

Q: What do I need to wear for the tour? Is it a lot of walking?

A: Definitely wear comfortable shoes since you'll be walking quite a bit through the museum! Dress in layers too, as some areas can be chilly with the AC. Casual attire is totally fine; just make sure you're ready for a few hours of exploring!

Q: How does the rooftop access work? Is it worth it?

A: The rooftop access is included during the summer months. It’s an amazing view of Central Park and the skyline! Totally worth it for some great photos and a nice break after the tour. Just keep in mind it can be busy up there.

Thinking of gifting the Met tour to my art-loving sister!

Hey everyone! I’m considering getting my sister the guided tour of the Met for her birthday. She’s super into art, especially the Impressionists, so I think she’d love this. Has anyone done this tour lately? How was the guide? Any tips for making it more special for her?

Just did the Met tour and it blew my mind!

Had an amazing time on the guided tour of the Met last week. We spent time in the Egyptian Galleries then hit the American Wing. The guide really brought the art to life! If you’re a first-timer, definitely don’t miss the rooftop during summer. The views are unreal. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a memorable experience!
