- You have full control of your schedule (not possible with most boat tours or similar group experiences). - Kayaks are much more beginner friendly and more stable than stand-up paddleboards, especially when there is any type of wind. - Kaneohe Bay is kayak friendly with no large waves (due to Kaneohe Bay’s barrier reef) and a prevailing breeze throughout the afternoon that pushes towards the shoreline (rather than out to sea!).

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for kids to participate in the kayaking experience?

A: There isn't a strict age limit, but Active Oahu Tours recommends kids be at least 5 years old to have a good time and be safe in the kayaks. Kids under 12 should paddle with an adult in the tandem kayak. I took my 8-year-old and we had a blast! Just make sure they wear the life vest and can handle a bit of splashing.

Q: What’s the best time of day to go kayaking in Kaneohe Bay?

A: Afternoons are ideal for this experience since the prevailing breezes help you paddle back to shore easier. If you start around 1 PM, you can enjoy the calm waters and avoid the morning crowd. Plus, the sunlight is perfect for snorkeling near the sandbar!

Q: What do you wear for the kayaking experience? Any tips?

A: Dress for the water! A swimsuit is a must, and you might want a rash guard for sun protection. Water shoes or sandals are great too, just in case you need to hop out for snorkeling. Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen—it's sunny out there!

Just booked a half-day kayaking trip at Kaneohe Bay!

I’m so excited! I got this experience for my partner's birthday. The self-guided aspect is what sold me—it's nice to have control over timing. We're planning to go in the afternoon for the best conditions. Plus, I heard the snorkeling is great! Anyone have tips on what to look out for while we're out there?

Has anyone done the Kaneohe Bay kayak experience recently?

Thinking of gifting this to my dad for Father’s Day! He loves the water but hasn’t kayaked before. I’m a bit worried about him handling it, though. How easy is it? Can he manage with just me helping him?
