Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the Half Day Root Glacier Hike? Can kids join?

A: Kids as young as 8 can join the hike, but make sure they’re comfortable with walking on uneven terrain. It's a pretty active experience, so it's good to check if they can handle it! Plus, the guides are really accommodating and make it fun for younger hikers too.

Q: What should I wear for the Root Glacier hike? Is there a dress code?

A: Dress in layers! You’ll want a moisture-wicking base layer, a warm mid-layer, and a waterproof outer layer. Good hiking boots are a must too! And definitely bring gloves and a hat, as it can get chilly on the glacier.

Q: What if the weather is bad on the day of the hike? Can we reschedule?

A: Yes, if the weather doesn’t cooperate, the tour operator will work with you to find another date. They prioritize safety, so if conditions are bad, they’ll let you know as soon as possible. Just be sure to check their cancellation policy to avoid any fees.

Just did the Half Day Root Glacier Hike in McCarthy!

OMG, the views on this hike were absolutely insane! Walking on the white ice of the Root Glacier felt surreal. We even got to drink from a glacial stream – so refreshing! Our guide was super knowledgeable about the history of the Kennicott Mining Town too. Highly recommend if you're up for an adventure!

Thinking of gifting the Root Glacier Hike!

I'm considering giving my brother the Half Day Root Glacier Hike experience for his birthday. He loves hiking, but I'm a little nervous about the conditions since it's winter. Anyone have tips on what to expect this time of year?
