Often the best way to learn the true history of a city is through the stories told by its most iconic bars. Each walking tour will focus on a neighborhood and its flavor, with stops along the way that highlight 4 historic "legacy" designated bars and chances for some local flavor for food and drinks. From the favorite bar of the beat poets to a classic gold miner haunt to a favorite of Anthony Bourdain. You will learn the rich history of each location along the way! Visit classic pubs like Vesuvio, Specs, Saloon and Mr. Bings and a choice of food stops. You will see classic landmarks like the TransAmerica building, Columbus and Coit towers or the Mission Dolores and Clarion Ally murals. You will choose your own food and drinks at each stop according to your own pace (30-60mins) and tastes, non-drinkers have had a great time too. Some spots are cash only. Each tour is designed to be small so you get your own experience and each tour is about 2 miles start to finish with light hills.

Q&A

Q: What should we wear for the walking tour? Is it mostly indoors or outdoors?

A: Dress comfortably! The tour is mostly outdoors, so I'd recommend layers because San Francisco weather can change quickly. Good walking shoes are a must since you'll be on your feet for a couple of hours. Don’t forget a light jacket or sweater for the cool breeze, especially near the water.

Q: Can I reschedule if the weather's bad? What are the cancellation policies?

A: Yes, you can definitely reschedule if the weather is bad! They usually give a few options for different days. Just make sure to check their policies when booking; they’re pretty flexible with cancellations, especially if it’s due to weather. It's best to reach out to them directly if you're unsure.

Q: Is this suitable for kids? What’s the age limit?

A: It's generally geared towards adults since it's a pub tour, but kids are allowed as long as they’re supervised. Some bars might not be the best environment for younger ones, so it's good to check which stops are included in your tour. As a parent, I found it educational and fun for my teens!

Thinking about booking the Half Day Walking Tour in SF—any tips?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to get this walking tour of historical pubs in San Francisco for my brother's birthday. He loves history and craft beer, and I thought it would be a fun experience! Any tips on what to expect or how to make it special? Also curious about the food options—are they good?

Just completed the San Francisco Walking Tour—so fun!

I just got back from the half-day walking tour of San Francisco's historic pubs and wow, it was amazing! We stopped at Vesuvio, Specs, and Mr. Bings. The stories about the beat poets and gold miners really brought the city’s history to life. The guide was super friendly, too! I can't wait to go again with friends. Highly recommend it if you’re into good drinks and history!
