Get to know this legendary neighborhood in northern Manhattan. A visit on a Sunday that gives us the opportunity to visit the African-American area of the city. All this walking, an excellent experience. We leave at 8:00 AM from Times Square, from there we will travel by subway to uptown Manhattan and begin the route along 125th Street, also known as Martin Luther King Boulevard. There we will make stops at the legendary Apollo Theater (1914) where many figures from the entertainment world began their artistic careers, Areta Franklyn, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, James Brown, in addition to performing there, Michel Jackson and Steve Wonder among others. We make another stop in front of the old Theresa Hotel (1913), where figures such as Fidel Castro and John F. Kennedy stayed. We will have time to walk through its streets and see the famous brownstones, with time for photos. We finish the route by attending one of the religious services in a Baptist church, (duration 1 hour)

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the walking tour and church service?

A: There's no strict age limit for the Harlem Walking Tour and Gospel Mass, but I'd say it’s best suited for ages 10 and up. The tour does involve quite a bit of walking (around 2-3 miles), so younger kids might not enjoy it as much. The church service is family-friendly, though, so kids can definitely join in for that!

Q: What should we wear for the walking tour? Comfortable shoes, I'm guessing?

A: Definitely wear comfortable walking shoes! The tour lasts several hours and you’ll be outside a lot, so dress in layers depending on the weather. It can get chilly in the morning, even in summer. Don’t forget your camera for the brownstones and Apollo Theater!

Q: What happens if it rains on the day of the tour?

A: If it rains, the tour might still happen unless there's a severe weather warning. They usually provide umbrellas for walking, and the church service will definitely go on. Just check the weather forecast and prepare for the rain if needed!

Thinking about gifting the Harlem Walking Tour + Gospel Mass!

Hey everyone! I'm considering this walking tour in Harlem as a gift for my parents’ anniversary. They love history and music, plus I think they’d really enjoy the church service aspect. Has anyone done this tour? Would love to hear your thoughts on the highlights and if it’s worth it!

Just booked the Harlem Walking Tour for next month!

I’m really excited about this! I booked the walking tour for the first Sunday of next month. I’ve heard great things about the Apollo Theater and the vibe of Harlem. Any tips for first-timers? What should I definitely look out for?
