Hawai‘i Island’s only working salt farm, featured on Guy Fieri’s “Guy Hawaiian Style,” is located on a scenic 7-acre oceanfront site in the Hawai‘i Ocean Science & Technology Park (HOST Park)—a community dedicated to ocean innovation. Our salt is hand-harvested by our Chief Salt Maker from deep ocean water drawn from 2,200 feet below the surface. On tour, you’ll learn about the cultural significance of Hawaiian salt (paʻakai), the journey of our ultra-pure water, and our solar-evaporation process. Enjoy a guided salt tasting, with pure, flavored, and smoked varieties. Optional cold deep ocean water foot soaks are available. If you're short on time, visit our retail store—just minutes from the airport. Through our Give Back program, 1% of revenue supports marine debris cleanup and coral restoration. The tour is partially wheelchair accessible—please contact us for details.

Q&A

Q: Is the Hawaiian Salt Farm Tour good for kids? Any age limits?

A: Yes, the Hawaiian Salt Farm Tour is great for kids! There aren’t strict age limits, but younger ones might enjoy the salt tasting and foot soaks the most. It’s a cool hands-on experience where kids can learn about the ocean and the salt-making process while having fun. Just keep an eye on them near the ocean!

Q: What should I wear for the salt farm tour? Is it muddy or anything?

A: Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes! The farm can get a bit muddy, especially near the salt pools. I recommend bringing a light jacket too, as it can get breezy by the ocean. You’ll want to be ready to walk around and enjoy the scenery!

Q: How do I reschedule if needed? Is there a fee?

A: You can reschedule your tour by contacting them directly, and they’re pretty flexible. Just give them at least 48 hours’ notice if possible. I didn’t have to pay any fees when I had to change my date, but make sure to check their policy when you book just in case!

Thinking about gifting the Salt Farm Tour—thoughts?

I’m looking to get this tour for my sister’s birthday since she loves cooking. The fact that it’s a working salt farm makes it so unique! Is it kid-friendly? I want to bring my niece too, but she’s pretty young. Also, is parking easy there? Any tips would be great!
