Enjoy a nice walk through the Giant Forest while we walk down a paved trail to the world’s largest tree, the General Sherman Tree. From there we will walk deeper into the Giant Forest. Along the way we will learn about the wildlife and plants that call this forest their home. Keep a watchful eye for a chance to see some of them in real life. If we are lucky we might even stumble into a black bear or two! Customization is available for medical and mobility accommodations only.

Q&A

Q: What's the best time of year to do the Heart of the Giant Forest hike? Is it crowded in the summer?

A: I'd recommend going in late spring or early fall! The weather is usually perfect, and you'll avoid the big summer crowds. Plus, the blooms in spring are gorgeous, and the fall colors are stunning. Just be prepared for cooler temps in the mornings.

Q: Are there any age restrictions for kids on this hike?

A: There's really no strict age limit, but I’d say it’s best for kids 6 and up. They’ll enjoy it more and be able to keep up with the pace. Just make sure to keep an eye on them, especially if you see any wildlife!

Q: What should I wear for the Heart of the Giant Forest hike?

A: Definitely wear comfortable shoes! The trail is paved but can get uneven in spots. Layering is smart too, because it can be chilly in the mornings and warm up later. And don’t forget sunscreen and a hat for sun protection!

Just did the Heart of the Giant Forest hike – what an experience!

Wow, if you’re thinking of gifting this hike, do it! The General Sherman Tree is just breathtaking. We went with a guide from Big Trees Tours, and they were super knowledgeable about the wildlife. We even spotted a bear from a distance—totally surreal! I think we all learned something new. Definitely recommend this for anyone who loves nature.
