Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for this kayak tour? Can kids join?

A: Yes, kids can join! The minimum age is typically around 5 years old, but it’s best to check with Kapohokine Adventures directly to confirm. They often have life vests for kids and make sure everyone is safe while having fun. Just keep in mind that younger kids may need a bit more supervision, especially while kayaking.

Q: What should we wear for this kayak tour? Is it cold in the water?

A: Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry clothes because, trust me, you might want to jump in the water! It’s usually warm in Hilo Bay, and the water temp is pretty comfortable. A light rash guard or sun shirt is a good idea for sun protection, especially if you're out there for a while.

Q: What happens if it rains during the tour? Do they cancel?

A: Rain doesn’t always mean cancellation! Kapohokine Adventures often operates in light rain, since it’s common in Hilo. However, if the weather is severe, they’ll definitely reschedule for a later date. Just keep an eye on the forecast and have a backup plan!

Thinking of gifting the Hilo Bay kayak tour - any thoughts?

I’m looking to buy this kayak tour for my sister's birthday. It sounds super fun, especially the part about hidden waterfalls. I live in the mainland, so I'm not sure how the logistics work with scheduling and parking. Has anyone done this yet? Would it suit a beginner?

Just got back from the kayak tour - what an experience!

We just did the Historic Hilo Bay Waterfalls by Kayak and wow, it exceeded my expectations! The guides shared so much history about Hilo town, and the waterfalls were breathtaking. Plus, we got to swim, which was a nice surprise! Highly recommend bringing a waterproof camera.
