Travel on a piece of history, learning Chicago fire history as well as Architecture! We travel on Lake Michigan and through the Chicago River seeing the sights. Perfect for Fire enthusiasts, families and everyone in between! Our flagship vessel is a retired Chicago fire boat, the Fred A Busse, Engine 41, which served Chicago from 1937 to 1981. Firefighter patches from around the world and memorabilia from Engine 41's time in service, adorn the walls inside the cabin.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for kids on the Fireboat Cruise?

A: There’s no strict age limit! Kids are welcome, and it’s actually a great educational experience for them. Just keep in mind that the boat can get a bit windy on the lake, so bring a light jacket or sweater for the little ones. Also, they might enjoy checking out the firefighter memorabilia inside.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the cruise?

A: If the weather’s really bad, you might get rescheduled to a different day. They’ll usually notify you in advance about any changes. It's best to check their website or call the office if you’re unsure about the conditions on the day of your cruise.

Q: What should I wear on the Fireboat Cruise?

A: Comfortable and casual is key! I'd suggest wearing layers since it can get chilly on the water, especially if you're up on deck. You might want to bring a hat or sunglasses too since the sun can be pretty strong.

Just got back from the Fireboat Cruise! Amazing experience!

I took the Historical and Architectural Chicago Fireboat River & Lake Cruise last weekend with my family, and we had the best time! The Fred A Busse is such a cool piece of history. The tour guide shared so many interesting stories about Chicago's fire history and the architecture along the river. It was about 90 minutes on the water, and we got to see some incredible sights. Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a fun and educational outing!

Thinking of gifting the Fireboat Cruise to my dad for his birthday!

I’m considering this cruise as a gift for my dad, who loves all things fire-related and has a soft spot for Chicago history. I think he’d appreciate the memorabilia onboard! Has anyone done it recently? What was the best part?
