Wander through downtown Traverse City by lantern-light, tracing the city’s origins, history, architecture and the ghost stories. This 100% outdoor walking tour weaves authentic stories of hauntings and spirits with compelling historical narratives. This is a 100% outdoor walking tour, rich in storytelling — part history, part local hauntings & lore. At the end, we visit the grounds of what was once Traverse City’s first cemetery. Though the graves were relocated long ago, the land still holds its memory… & some say, more than memory. ️Please note no public restrooms at meet-up location. Humor is found on this tour. The intro to ghost hunting is the last 5 minutes of the tour. Best For: History lovers, ghost-story enthusiasts, families seeking a spooky-yet-informative evening. Heads-Up: Not ideal for those wanting a cemetery tour, a pure paranormal or “ghost-hunting” adventure or those allergic to history. Seeking a cemetery tour? Check out our Oakwood Cemetery Tour

Q&A

Q: Is there a minimum age for participants on the Historical Ghost Lantern Tour?

A: There isn't a strict minimum age for the tour, but I'd say kids aged 8 and up will enjoy it the most. Younger kids might find the stories a bit spooky. Just keep in mind it is a walking tour, so they'll need to be able to keep up for the duration, which can vary. It's a fun way to introduce them to some local history!

Q: What should we wear for the Historical Ghost Lantern Tour? Is it a lot of walking?

A: Definitely wear comfortable walking shoes since it’s an outdoor walking tour. The guides recommend layers, especially if you're going in the evening, since it can get a bit chilly in Traverse City. You’ll want to be prepared for a good amount of walking, so keep that in mind when choosing your outfit!

Q: Are there any restroom facilities during the tour?

A: Unfortunately, there are no public restrooms at the meet-up location. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and use facilities before you arrive. The tour lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours, so just make sure everyone's good to go beforehand!
