One of seven Industrial World Wonders, Hoover Dam is a concrete gravity-arch dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between Arizona and Nevada. You’ll take the elevator with a guide to the bottom as he/she describes this modern marvel. At the bottom, you’ll tour the powerplant, seventeen main turbine-generator combinations that generate a maximum of 2,074 megawatts of hydroelectric power. Next, Historic Era Railroad Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about our country's history or how railroads shaped our nation and Hoover Dam. Boulder City was the federal town established to house workers on the Hoover Dam project. The U.S. Government and Six Companies both operated railroads between the Boulder City Yard and Hoover Dam. These essential railways made the construction of the dam possible and continued to play a vital role in the process well into the 1960s. Lunch is optional, we'll choose from Cornish Pasty to local favorite restaurants

Q&A

Q: Is there any age limit for the Hoover Dam tour?

A: There’s no specific age limit for the Hoover Dam tour! It’s suitable for all ages, but keep in mind that younger kids might need some supervision and could get a bit restless during the longer talks. The elevator ride down to the power plant can be a bit tight, so just prepare for that if you have a stroller or anything bulky. Overall, it's a great educational experience for the whole family.

Q: What’s included in the Hoover Dam tour? Do we need to bring anything?

A: The tour includes bottled water and all entry fees, so you won’t have to worry about hidden costs. As for what to bring, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes since you’ll be doing a bit of walking, and maybe a light jacket because it can get chilly in the power plant. You might also want to bring a camera for photos!

Q: Can we reschedule if something comes up?

A: Yes, you can reschedule your tour, but it's always best to check with Desert Wonder Tours directly for their specific policy! Generally, they’re pretty accommodating if you give them notice. Just make sure to have your booking details handy when you reach out. They'll guide you through the process!

Just did the Hoover Dam tour—here’s my experience!

I recently went on the Hoover Dam Power Plant tour with Desert Wonder Tours and it was so cool! The elevator ride down to the power plant was impressive, and our guide shared tons of interesting facts. The museum afterward was a nice touch, really brought history to life. I would totally recommend this as a gift for someone who loves engineering or history. Just a heads up, it can get hot, so wear light clothes!

Thinking of gifting the Hoover Dam tour—any tips?

I’m considering getting this Hoover Dam tour experience for my dad’s birthday. He’s a huge fan of engineering and I think he’d love it. Just wondering if anyone has done this tour and has recommendations? Is the museum worth it? Also, what’s parking like there?
