Q&A

Q: What's the age limit for kids on this bear hunt excursion?

A: There's no strict age limit, but they recommend at least 8 years old for safety reasons. Kids should be able to walk for a bit and be quiet since we're looking for bears. Just keep in mind the excursion is about 4 hours long, so it's best suited for kids who can handle that. Definitely check with the provider if you have younger ones!

Q: Can we reschedule if the weather doesn't cooperate?

A: Yes, you can reschedule if the weather is bad. The provider is pretty flexible about it. Just make sure to contact them as soon as you know there’s an issue. They’ll work with you to find a better day, but typically they won't cancel unless it’s really unsafe.

Q: What should we wear for the bear hunt? Any tips?

A: Dress in layers! Temperatures can vary a lot in Alaska. Waterproof shoes are a must since you might be walking through wet areas. Also, bring a good jacket as it can get chilly, especially near the coast. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat if it's sunny!

Thinking of gifting the bear hunt tour at Icy Strait!

Hey everyone! I’m considering gifting the Icy Strait bear hunt excursion to my boyfriend for his birthday. We’ll be in Hoonah next month. I’ve heard the views are absolutely breathtaking, and that you get to see bears up close! Has anyone done this? What was the best part of your experience?

Anyone know if I can bring my camera on the bear hunt?

I really want to capture the moment when we see the bears! Is it allowed? Also, will I have time to take photos or is it fast-paced? This looks like an amazing experience in Hoonah!
