Q&A
A: The best time for whale watching in Juneau is generally from May to September. During these months, you have a high chance of seeing humpback and orca whales. I went in mid-July, and we saw a lot of breaching! Plus, the weather is usually pretty nice, making the salmon bake outdoors even better.
A: There's no strict age limit for the whale watching tour, but it's generally suitable for all ages. However, keep in mind that young kids may need to be supervised closely since the boat can be a bit bumpy. If you're bringing younger kids, just check with the provider about any safety regulations.
A: The salmon bake is pretty amazing! The buffet features grilled wild salmon, but there are also sides like salads and veggies you can enjoy. If you're vegetarian, you might want to call ahead to see if they can accommodate your dietary needs. The food is a highlight of the whole experience!

Just booked the Juneau whale watching and salmon bake trip!
I’m super excited! I’ve heard amazing things about the humpbacks and orcas. Can't wait to eat some fresh salmon while enjoying the beautiful scenery! My partner’s birthday is coming up, and I think this will be a perfect gift. Anyone have tips on what to bring or wear for the day?
Tips for the Juneau Whale Watching and Salmon Bake!
I just came back from the tour last week, and it was phenomenal! We saw so many whales. The salmon bake was delicious too, but I didn’t expect it to get breezy. I wore layers and was super glad I did. If you’re going, definitely pack a good camera and some sunscreen—even if it’s cloudy!
