Q&A
A: Yes, kids are welcome! It's suitable for children who can handle some hiking, but I'd say 8 years old and up is a good age for this experience. Make sure they’re comfortable with walking on uneven terrain and being out after dark for the lava gazing part. Kalaninuimehameha is great with kids and makes it fun for everyone!
A: Definitely wear sturdy shoes, like hiking boots or good trail shoes. It can get muddy in spots, especially if it rained recently. Dress in layers since it cools down at night and don’t forget a light jacket for the evening lava gazing! Also, bring a hat and sunscreen for the daytime.
A: If the weather doesn't cooperate, Kalaninuimehameha will usually reschedule to another day. He’s very flexible with timing and wants everyone to enjoy the experience. Just make sure to keep an eye on the forecast. They will also provide updates a few days before your hike!

Amazing experience hiking with Kalaninuimehameha!
I just got back from the Kīlauea hike and I can't recommend it enough! Kalaninuimehameha is super knowledgeable about everything Hawaiian—culture, fauna, the lava! The view of Halema'uma'u at night was mind-blowing. Definitely wear good shoes because some parts can be tricky, but it’s so worth it. This is a perfect gift for anyone who loves nature and adventure.
Considering this hike as a gift for my boyfriend. Thoughts?
I'm looking for a unique gift for my boyfriend's birthday and found this Kīlauea hike. He loves the outdoors and I think the lava gazing part would blow his mind! Has anyone done this? What was your favorite moment? Any tips? Thanks!
