This early morning 5 mile adventure starts with an amazing overlook at Liberty Memorial, then trekking down the hill past Union Station. We’ll stop at a local Mexican shop for refreshing fruit juice as we explore the architecturally and culturally diverse neighborhood of the Westside. We learn about the historical West Bottoms, as well as the Pendergast era in addition to experiencing alleyways lined with street art. This hike is full of Instagramable spots and hidden Kansas City gems. This won’t be a leisurely stroll in flip flops, as we go up steep hills and staircases and sometimes walk in direct sun. You'll need good walking or running shoes and your water bottle! We also offer tours in Spanish! ¡También ofrecemos el recorrido completamente en español!

Q&A

Q: How steep are the hills on this hike? I'm not in the best shape!

A: The hills can be pretty steep, especially when you go up and down by Union Station and the Liberty Memorial. If you're not used to hiking, it could be a challenge. Make sure to wear good shoes and take breaks if you need to. It's definitely doable, just be prepared for some serious elevation changes!

Q: Can this be done in the winter? What if it snows?

A: Yes, the hike can be done in winter, but snow and ice can make the trails slippery. It's best to check the weather leading up to your tour, as they might cancel for safety reasons. Wear warm layers and sturdy shoes with good grip. If it’s too icy, they’ll likely reschedule.

Q: What's the best age group for this hike? Is it kid-friendly?

A: This hike is better suited for older kids and adults since it can be physically challenging. Younger kids might struggle with the steep parts. If you think your kids can handle it and enjoy a bit of adventure, go for it! Just make sure they’re ready for the hills and to walk about 5 miles.

Thinking about gifting the Urban Hike in KC – what do you think?

So, I've been considering this Kansas City Crossroads Urban Hike for my friend's birthday. It's a 5-mile trek that starts at Liberty Memorial, which sounds super cool! I love the idea of stopping for local fruit juice too. Just a bit worried about the steep hills and whether my friend will enjoy that. Has anyone done this?

Just finished the Urban Hike in KC! Wow!

I just got back from the Kansas City Crossroads Art District hike and I can’t recommend it enough! The views from the memorial were breathtaking and the alley art was so vibrant. It's not an easy hike, but the stop for fruit juice was the cherry on top. You’ll definitely need good shoes and water. Planning to take my family next time!
