Hi, I'm Scott. Karissa and I are the owners and only guides at Island Kayak Tours. We will guide you through the mangrove tunnels (tide permitting) and time your adventure just right to give you the best chance at seeing dolphins & manatees. There is also free time for you to explore Shell Key Island, whether that means shelling, swimming, snorkeling, or simply enjoying the view. Our tours take place in a shallow saltwater preserve. There are no alligators, and most of the water is knee to waist-deep; perfect for both beginners and experts. All the experience I have from growing up here in St. Petersburg has given me the opportunity to put together a kayak tour like no other. Kayaking has always been one of my favorite things to do around the area. This has allowed me the opportunity to find all the best kayaking spots and to accumulate the local knowledge to give you a true Florida experience. I started this kayaking company to share the natural beauty of my home with you.

Q: What should we wear for the kayak tour? Do we need special shoes or anything?

A: Wear something comfortable that you don’t mind getting wet! Swimsuits are great, and quick-dry clothing works too. Water shoes or flip-flops are recommended since you might step into shallow water. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat!

Q: Is there an age limit for the kayak adventure? Can kids join?

A: Kids can definitely join the tour! Just keep in mind that they should be comfortable in the water and able to follow directions. It’s a great family activity, and we often have families with younger kids join us.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad? Can we reschedule?

A: If the weather isn't suitable for kayaking, we’ll absolutely work with you to reschedule. Safety is our priority. Just make sure to check your email before the tour for updates. We want everyone to have a great experience!

Just went on the kayak adventure at Shell Key Preserve - AMAZING!

I just got back from the kayak adventure with Scott and Karissa, and it was so awesome! The mangrove tunnels were beautiful, and we even saw a dolphin up close! 😍 Shell Key Island is perfect for shelling too. I recommend bringing snacks and water. Overall, a fantastic gift idea for anyone who loves nature!

I want to surprise my friend with a unique experience for her birthday, and the kayak tour sounds perfect! I’m a little nervous about the logistics though. How’s the parking situation at the location? Is it easy to find?
