This guided kayaking tour in Yellowstone National Park, includes an introduction to Yellowstone's history and geology of the Lake, along with the kayaking equipment and techniques, then your guides lead you around the shoreline to the West Thumb Geyser Basin where there are many geothermal features on land and under water we will explore from our kayaks, many of which are not accessible by any other means. We explore from our kayaks this primitive geyser basin where there are no signs, no boardwalks and most importantly no other people. We stop at a secluded beach for a picnic lunch which we provide, then return the same way we came arriving back to our vehicles around 2 in the afternoon, depending on the group. All necessary kayaking equipment and instruction on paddling techniques are included. No prior kayaking experience is required. All skill levels are welcome. Single and double kayaks are available. Small groups with an individual experience.

Q&A

Q: How physically demanding is the kayak tour? Are beginners really welcome?

A: The kayak tour is pretty chill and designed for all skill levels! No prior experience is needed, and the guides do a great job explaining the basics. If you're generally active and can paddle for a couple of hours, you should be fine. Just bring some water and a good attitude!

Q: What's the best time of year to do the kayak tour on Yellowstone Lake?

A: Late spring to early fall is the best time for this tour. I went in late June, and the weather was perfect! Just keep in mind that mornings can be chilly, so layering is key. The lake is stunning during summer, with the geothermal features really standing out!

Q: Is there parking available close to the launch site? How busy does it get?

A: There’s parking near the launch site, but it can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. I recommend getting there early to snag a spot! The guides are great about timing, and they keep groups small, so it doesn't feel overcrowded once you're out on the water.

Thinking of gifting the Kayak Day Paddle at Yellowstone - any recommendations?

Hey everyone! I'm looking at getting the Kayak Day Paddle on Yellowstone Lake as a gift for my boyfriend's birthday. He's into outdoor stuff, but he's never been kayaking. Do you think it's a good choice? Also, what should he wear? Any tips would be awesome!

Anyone been on the Kayak Day Paddle? What was the experience like?

Just booked the Kayak Day Paddle for next week! I’m so excited but a bit nervous about the whole kayak thing. What did you think of the guides? Anything I should know before I go?
