Q&A

Q: What if the weather turns bad during our kayak tour in Hoonah?

A: Fairweather Kayaks is pretty good about handling weather issues. If it’s raining, they provide light ponchos. However, if the conditions are really bad, they might cancel the tour for safety reasons. They’ll usually reschedule you for another day if that happens, so just check with them beforehand.

Q: Is there an age limit for kids to join the kayak tours?

A: There isn't a strict age limit, but younger kids should be able to paddle and follow instructions. Fairweather Kayaks recommends kids be at least 6 years old, but it's always best to reach out to them directly if you have specific concerns about your little ones joining.

Q: What should we wear for the kayak tour? Any recommendations?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It can get chilly, even in summer. Wear a moisture-wicking shirt, a light jacket, and quick-dry shorts or pants. They provide ponchos, but water shoes or sandals are a good idea too if you plan to get wet. Don't forget sunscreen!

Just booked a kayak tour with Fairweather Kayaks! Any tips?

I'm so excited! Just reserved our kayak tour for next month in Hoonah. I've heard amazing things about the wildlife sightings and the calm waters. What should I definitely bring? It’ll be my first time kayaking! Also, do we really need to worry about the weather that much?

Just got back from Hoonah! Kayaking was a blast!

I just returned from a trip to Hoonah and did the kayak tour with Fairweather Kayaks. It was one of the coolest experiences ever! We saw seals and even a bald eagle! The water was super calm, and the guides made everything easy. If you're thinking about getting this as a gift, do it! You won’t regret it.
